Ans. Martial Arts is the combination of knowledge pertaining to defence of oneself from attack from a single or multiple opponents. The Martial Arts includes various techniques of empty hand/leg co-ordinations that are designed to attack an opponent and defend oneself from an opponent. A martial artist is a practitioner of any or a combination of various martial arts like Karate, Kung Fu, Wushu etc. At GDSMA, we believe in a comprehensive accumulation and training comprising of various Martial Arts so as to enhance ones skills in self defence.
Q : I am a bit overweight; can Martial Arts training help me slim down?
Ans. At GDSMA, Martial Arts training include jogging, sparring, combination kicks/punches, empty hand Forms, weapons forms, weapons training, etc. All the above activities help in some form or the other to reduce weight and maintain physical fitness. The training is based on ones physical fitness and we do understand that in some cases, we have to slowly increase the pace of training keeping in mind the student's age and physical fitness level. Therefore, the training is designed to be gradual and enjoying. We pay special individual attention to each and every student and help them progress at a level that is comfortable to themselves. Besides, this we offer several other Fitness programmes (Body Combat, Tai Chi etc).
Q: “Does martial arts, Wing Chun Kungfu, karate, Kick Boxing make kids violent?”
No way! At GDSMA Martial arts is about peace, harmony and diplomacy. It teaches children how to AVOID fights - not pick them.
Q: “Can my child get injured with martial arts training?”
As a parent, I'm sure you've seen that kids can get injured doing just about anything. At GDSMA Martial arts is no different, however we take safety very seriously here. Yes, injuries do sometimes happen. But we do everything in our power to avoid them. We do special exercises and stretches to make your child's body limber and flexible. And we're ALWAYS keeping a very close eye on everything going on.
Q: “My child isn't athletic. Can he/she still participate in martial arts?”
Absolutely. Martial arts at GDSMA teaches kids to be coordinated, flexible and strong. Kids who don't naturally have these qualities develop them. Kids who do have these qualities grow them even more.
Q: “Is martial arts fun for children?”
Absolutely! In fact, kids usually have to drag their parents to martial arts class - something parents are always shocked to see. We have our serious moments here where kids work and learn... but we have just as many moments where they goof off and have a blast!
Q: “Do children's confidence & self-esteem grow with martial arts?”
Absolutely. Kid with low self-esteem often come out of their shells. As their skill level increases, they feel more and more confident. Other kids look up to them, just as they look up to other kids who are ahead of them. It builds a sense of confidence, pride, and teamwork.
Q: “What's a good age for a child to start martial arts?”
Honestly, practically every age is a good age to start! We have children as young as 3 years old, as well as teenagers. We also have specific programs for adults. So no matter where you or your child is on the age spectrum - we've got you covered.
Q: “Do boys AND girls take martial arts?”
Yes! We have a good mix of both girls and boys in our kids martial arts classes! Some people think that the boys are much “stronger and tougher,” but in reality this is not true. In fact, often girls are the stronger ones!
